This statue is called “Le Marron Inconnu” or “Neg Mawon” which translates to The Unknown Maroon. Depicted in this image is a runaway slave blowing the freedom horn to notify other enslaved people that the revolution is here. Haiti is the first black republic and the Haitian Revolution served as a domino effect causing revolts across the Caribbean and into the Americas.
