Maroon Town

Founded by one of Jamaica’s national heroines Nanny of the Maroons. This settlement like Yanga Town was born from a slave revolt called the First Maroon War. After winning this resistance and a series of others, the British also came to an agreement with Nanny that allowed her to govern the Maroons on a piece of land located in Jamaica’s Cockpit Country in peace. Today the Maroons are still sovereign to the islands government and rule. This piece features the entrance to Maroon Town.
